Care Home Garden

A cornucopia of joy — designed for accessibility, beauty and wellbeing

This garden was created and evolved over a longer period of time, designed with care to ensure that every part of it could be enjoyed easily and safely. One of the key principles behind the design was complete accessibility — paved paths, gentle gradients and handrails mean residents can move freely through the garden without steps or barriers.

The result is a space rich in colour, texture and variety, with more than 240 species of trees, shrubs and perennials, alongside ornamental grasses and over twenty different climbers. There’s interest in every season — spring bulbs, summer blooms, autumn colour and tranquil winter structure — ensuring there’s always something new to see every day.

Paths link a series of distinct garden rooms, each with its own character and planting style.Highlights include:

  • Entrance garden – a sunny seating area with a Greek urn water feature.

  • Courtyard garden – featuring a freestanding water feature surrounded by Himalayan blue poppies, primulas and hosta planters.

  • The shady brick path walk – cool and calm beneath mature planting.

  • Tropical sun terrace – bright foliage and warmth-loving plants.

  • Lawn and meadow area – specimen trees and wildflowers for wildlife.

  • Water garden – complete with cascade, fountain and bespoke stone seating.

  • Hexagonal pergola – draped with climbers and framed by an Indian stone circle seating area.

  • Golden jasmine and rose arch – leading into a scented garden filled with phlox, hydrangea and red thyme hanging baskets.

  • Roof garden – offering raised views across the grounds.

The garden is dotted with bird boxes and bee hotels, encouraging biodiversity and bringing life and movement throughout the year. The rich mix of planting attracts bees, butterflies, birds — even the occasional hummingbird hawk moth and summer song thrush.

Above all, this is a peaceful and uplifting space — a garden for residents, families and friends to spend time in together. It changes through the seasons, lifting spirits and enhancing wellbeing for everyone who visits.
