Olive Tree Garden
A timeless focal point — celebrating a 150-year-old olive tree with elegant planting and traditional pathways
The centrepiece of this garden is a magnificent 150-year-old olive tree, raised within a circular brick planter so its beautiful trunk, branching form and silvery canopy can be fully appreciated. The tree is underplanted with Santa Barbara daisies, softening the brickwork and adding gentle movement and summer colour.
Traditional-style brick paths lead from the front gate toward the front door and lawn area, giving the garden a classic, welcoming feel that suits the setting.
Surrounding the olive planter is a border filled with a carefully chosen mix of shrubs, perennials and grasses, including:
Flamingo grasses
Groundcover Geranium ‘Dreamland’
Santa Barbara daisies (Erigeron karvinskianus)
Spring tulips (‘Amiable Blue’)
Spring and early summer Alliums (‘Globemaster’)
This planting combination provides interest and colour from March to November and is highly attractive to bees and butterflies — with alliums being particularly good at drawing in bumblebees during late spring and early summer.
Front gardens are often overlooked, but with thoughtful design and planting they can become beautiful, welcoming spaces that lift the whole appearance of a property.
This garden is a perfect example: simple, elegant and built around a tree with real presence and history.
